What is Limestone?

Limestone is a premium, 100% natural stone. It is a type of sedimentary rock that forms over millions of years beneath shallow ocean waters from natural elements like shells and coral.

In Australia, limestone is a major favorite for creating a beautiful, seamless look between indoor rooms and outdoor spaces. From bright coastal properties in Perth to modern architectural homes in Sydney and Melbourne, it delivers a soft, natural style that brings luxury to any project.

Why choose limestone for your home?

  • It stays cool under the sun: Limestone has an amazing natural ability to stay cool under your feet, even on scorching hot summer days. This makes it a popular choice for backyard patios, courtyards, and pool surrounds.
  • It is incredibly tough: This stone has been used for centuries to build structures that last for generations, including ancient pyramids and grand European cathedrals. It handles heavy daily walking and outdoor weather with ease.
  • It ages beautifully: Instead of wearing out, limestone develops a graceful natural character and charm over the years that makes your property look even better as time goes by.

Choose your style and finish

We provide limestone in a variety of finishes to perfectly match different areas of your home and landscaping:

  • Honed: The surface is smoothed down to give the stone a relaxed, lived-in feel. Excellent for indoor floors and comfortable outdoor walkways.
  • Sandblasted & Anti-Slip: These finishes add a fine, safe texture to the surface. It is the perfect choice for wet areas like pool decks where you need reliable grip for running kids.
  • Natural Split: The stone is split along its natural layers to leave a rugged, uneven surface. This shows the limestone in its rawest form and looks amazing on garden paths and backyard features.
  • The French Pattern: A classic layout style that uses a clever mix of four different tile sizes instead of standard straight lines. It creates a relaxed, premium look that is perfect for Hamptons-style or modern coastal designs.

Choose your color

Because limestone is shaped by nature over millions of years, every piece is completely one-of-a-kind. We offer five easy-to-match colors:

  • White: A bright, luminous stone filled with soft natural textures. It reflects sunlight beautifully and gives coastal homes a clean, airy feel.
  • Beige: A warm, neutral tone with a soft Mediterranean vibe. It is highly practical for busy families because it easily hides daily dust and footprints.
  • Ivory: A grand, light shade with soft earthy undertones. It bounces natural light perfectly to make any outdoor entertaining area look massive and open.
  • Grey: A sophisticated, cool grey. Very popular among modern designers for sleek urban gardens and contemporary paths.
  • Black: A deep, moody shade that creates a bold architectural statement. It looks stunning next to green lawns, garden beds, and timber decks.

How to clean and look after limestone

Taking care of limestone is simple and easy if you follow a few basic rules:

  1. Seal the stone every 1 to 2 years

Limestone is a natural stone with tiny pores that can absorb liquids. Applying a protective liquid sealer keeps stains out without changing the natural look of the stone.

  • The water test: Splash a little water on the stone. If it sits on top in a bead, your stone is safe. If it soaks in and darkens the limestone, it is time to put on a new layer of sealer.
  • Tip: Always apply sealer to a completely dry surface and let it rest for 24 to 48 hours before walking on it.
  1. Basic daily cleaning
  • Sweep up sand: Sweep away dirt and grit regularly. Walking on trapped sand can act like sandpaper and scratch the stone over time.
  • Use mild soap: Only wash your floors with gentle, pH-neutral cleaners made specifically for natural stone.
  • Clean spills fast: Things like red wine, coffee, and lemon juice can permanently stain or dull the stone. Soak up spills immediately with a paper towel—never wipe, as wiping spreads the liquid into the grain.
  1. What to avoid
What to avoid Why you must avoid it
Vinegar, Lemon, & Bleach These are highly acidic. They will chemically burn the calcium in the stone and leave permanent, ugly white dull spots.
Wire Brushes & Scratchy Pads These are too aggressive and will leave highly visible scratches across the beautiful finish.
Generic Shiny Sealers Standard acrylic or glossy sealers trap moisture inside the stone, which causes it to turn a cloudy white color and rot.
High-Pressure Washers Extreme water pressure can blast open the natural holes and grain of the stone, making it much harder to keep clean in the future.
