Simple Care and Cleaning Guide

Because outdoor steps handle a lot of foot traffic and constant weather, a little basic care goes a long way:

1. Seal the stone every 2 years

Think of sealer as an invisible force field. Because limestone is a natural stone, it has tiny pores that can absorb rain, mud, or stains from fallen leaves. Applying a high-quality penetrating liquid sealer every two years stops dirt from soaking in without making your steps slippery.

• Application: Always make sure the stone is completely bone-dry before rolling on your sealer, and let it dry for 24 to 48 hours.

2. Use gentle, stone-safe soaps

Never use harsh supermarket cleaners, bleach, or acidic household tricks like vinegar or lemon juice on limestone. These acids will chemically burn (etch) the stone instantly, leaving permanent, dull white marks. Always use mild, pH-neutral soaps made specifically for natural stone.

3. Avoid high-pressure water blasting

Blasting your steps with an industrial high-pressure washer at close range can wash away the grout holding the steps together or rough up the beautiful natural texture of the stone. For seasonal cleaning, a standard garden hose with a spray nozzle and a soft nylon brush is all you need.
